June 8, 2024 (Gaza) Israeli sources have confirmed a successful operation to rescue live Israeli hostages from Nuseirat, a refugee camp located in the middle of the Gaza strip. The IDF in the newly named, “Operation Arnon”, after the commander who spearheaded the operation, was successful in rescuing 4 Israeli hostages from the area.
The hostages were kidnapped during the October 7th massacre perpetrated by the terrorist organization Hamas, and had been held for nearly 245 days before their rescue. Hamas had paid Palestinian families to hold these prisoners and also provided armed guards to prevent the prisoners’ escape.
The rescue team took heavy fire from Hamas terrorists that erupted into a prolonged firefight, and which rendered one of the rescue vehicles inoperable, per Israeli IDF sources. Coordinated strikes in the area by other IDF units, including paratroopers, cleared the way for an improvised helipad which was used for the extraction. (Tsarfati, Amir: Behold Israel)
